Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) NESTING

CENTRAL FLORIDA CRITTER OF THE DAY: Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) NESTING

Was happy to find a nest which seems to be doing a-ok. I had a nest in the front yard in a live oak that the doves had a successful brood in last year. This year they had two tragedies in that tree when predators stopped by for eggs. Doves lay two eggs in the nest. This dove is nesting in a lauren oak tree in the back yard.

Mostly a seed eating bird, occasionally berries and snails.
