Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)

CENTRAL FLORIDA CRITTER OF THE DAY: Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)

All fluffed up against a cool breeze this morning.

Mostly a seed eating bird, occasionally berries and snails.

  1. Oh, how I love seeing these familiar birds here in Florida – reminds me of home. Their calls seem slightly different but still music to my ears – and this morning, a Cardinal! I love mourning doves and hope my fellow doves at home in northern NY are fairing well. I usually have a heated bath going and put out cracked corn for them. I should have plenty of seed throughout the garden and on a good day the solar bath may offer a drink.
