Leaf-cutter Bee (Anthidiellum notatum rufimaculatum)

CENTRAL FLORIDA CRITTER OF THE DAY: Leaf-cutter Bee (Anthidiellum notatum rufimaculatum)

This particular subspecies is endemic to FL and my area is probably the northern most range. The color is a giveaway since

the northern subspecies has yellow markings. (source: http://www.jstor.org/stable/3493170?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents)

  1. I will never forget witnessing a leaf cutter bee cut out a piece of leaf from my Swamp Rose and fly off – it was truly a magical moment!
